Using rocks in landscapes

Implementing rocks is one of the most important aspects of a natural landscape. Whether it be to build retaining walls, steps, boulder accents, or a gravel pathway, rocks are a commonly overlooked way to accentuate the natural beauty and texture of a landscape. Strategically placed, they are a great complement to existing features, including, trees, lawns, gardens, pathways, walk ways, water features, etc.

We, at Natural Landscape and Irrigation, have experience with many types of rocks and rock features. Here are a examples of a few types of rocks that are commonly used in our landscaping projects:

River rock comes in all different sizes and is commonly used for dry streambed and dry creek landscapes

Flagstone includes natural pavers and patio stones often used for incorporation in walkways and patios

Crushed rock or gravel packs well and is great for driveways and pathways

Basalt is often used for building natural rock retaining walls, large slabs can be used for steps/stairs.

Boulders, carefully placed, can act as aesthetic accents for your landscape
